The careless rich:
Newspaper business reporters are worse than their Auto Page and Consumer Electronic colleagues, who are themselves below the credibility of Sports reporters.
Look through your newspaper.
Ever wonder why so many stories are about the latest Bentley model? Long articles about the most recent $500 pocket electronic gadget. Ever wonder who owns all those sunken gardens sprawling out to the sculpted hedges. When did you last “weekend” at an English country estate?
You think maybe your newspapers are out of touch?
The New York Times has done 53 articles, front page at that, on the imprisoned terrorist at Abu Gharib, and 24 stories on Air America radio. Oh, sure, the New York Times has not lost touch with America.
How many will be hurt by the housing bubble? We do not expect the Real Estate Page editor to care (we know that they like the sports, auto, and consumer “life style” reporters are nothing but touts for the rich), but wouldn’t you have thought that some business reporter would want to warn his readers?
Some U.S. housing markets show signs of bust: Fannie
Housing bubble trouble - Mass. home sales plunge 11.1 percent
Calif. housing bubble seen deflating
UCLA researchers see prices flattening
U.K. house prices dropped for the 12th successive month in June, making homes cheaper than at any time in almost two years, according to a survey by the Hometrack property Web site.
It's a bubble that brings to mind those English Victorian novels that featured a named estate as a central protagonist and land values as their theme. If TV had been around in the 19th century, no doubt the characters in George Eliot's "Middlemarch" would have watched "Extreme Makeover" and fretted about whether they could afford Sub-Zero refrigerators.
There is a tiresome provincialism and self-righteousness to the real estate bubble. You may have been smart if you bought eBay stock early on, but you were virtuous and responsible if you bought property as early as possible in your adulthood, and now you are being rewarded for your upright character.
But the median sale price dropped 6.5% to $217,000, lowest since September's $211,600.

The mother of 12-year-old San Francisco boy killed by the family’s two pit bulls earlier this month was arrested today on a warrant charging her with felony child endangerment causing death.
The charges against Maureen Faibish, 39, could lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if she is convicted. . . .

IMUS COPS TO NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE ON AIR
In a bizarre occurrence on Imus in the Morning, Don Imus related a story of how a dog he owned thirty years ago killed an elderly neighbor when it got loose in Imus' old neighborhood in Parma, Ohio. Imus claimed that he was unaware of the incident for six months until another neighbor informed him of the incident. Imus recounted that the dog, a mixed-breed Great Dane/Boxer jumped on the elderly woman in her backyard who went into cardiac arrest and died. Imus' brother Fred joined the discussion and reminded Don that the dog in question was not "Bingo", a dog Imus had in his childhood, but rather "Bear" a large dog that had a previous history of aggressive behavior. Upon hearing the name "Bear", Charles McCord added his recollection about the dog that confirmed Fred Imus' account of an aggressive dog that had attacked other people.
NOTE: Imus says no one from the family of the woman ever contacted him nor the police so it is safe to say he was never charged with anything.
Anyone know what the statute of limitations is in Ohio for what sounds a lot like negligent homicide?

At least someone has finally stood up to the old degenerate. Of course, Tucker Carlson will now become a target, and not just of Imus. He has shown what cowards the others are, Russert, Matthews, Fineman, etc. all the cowards chasing “media exposure.”
Imus and Carlson become royal pain with Contessa fight
(http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1423342/posts)
All the kids are buzzing that there might be a fight after school between MSNBC spitball-throwers Tucker Carlson and Don Imus.
At the very least - after their nasty little dustup on Imus' morning show - these two incorrigibles should be sent to the principal's office.
The trouble started when Carlson, who was appearing by phone Monday to hype his new MSNBC show, "The Situation," chided Imus for being "awfully mean" to MSNBC anchor Contessa Brewer, who'd read the news on Imus' show until recently.
"She's a moron," Imus snapped, echoing the insults he'd hurled at Brewer after she was quoted as calling him "a cantankerous old fool."
"She's the greatest person I have ever met," Carlson insisted. "I think she's brilliant and lovely."
Imus bristled: "Here's what you should do, Tucker. You should put her on your show. See how that works out for you."
Then Imus abruptly ended the interview. After that, he fumed and fumed, at one point mocking MSNBC President Rick Kaplan - aka the principal - for luring Carlson from CNN.
"I got a great idea! CNN fires this schmuck, I'll tell you what, let us hire him and give him his own show," Imus said, sarcastically.
Yesterday morning, Imus was still ranting, calling his new colleague "that bow-tied little [synonym for cat]" and Carlson's show "stupid."
Neither the combatants nor Brewer returned my phone calls yesterday.
Principal Kaplan tried to put a happy face on the whole thing: "I've got a great show in 'Imus in the Morning' and I'm really happy with 'The Situation With Tucker Carlson.' They're big boys. They'll work it out."
Yeah, well, I guess . . . watch out Tucker Carlson, Imus has gotten away with murder before.
